Solander – One More Shot

31 01 2010

This band from Malmö and Göteborg, Sweden, played live at a friend’s birthday party two years ago, and I really liked what I heard. Today, I realized that they released an album last year. I’ve been listening to it all day long on Spotify. Enjoy!

Bassnectar and Major Lazer

30 01 2010

In our meanderings online, Jon and I started looking up electronic artists coming to Detroit. It turns out a show in April will feature Bassnectar and Major Lazer toGETHER!!!!! That’s pretty sweet. I only know a couple from each, but they are sick sweet (check out Major Lazer’s Pon de Floor). Bassnectar has also done a remix of Fever Ray that is sweet. So they’re coming to Detroit in April, and I’m fixing to find a way to get there.

Meanwhile, below is a link to Bassnectar’s website, with a free mixtape he made. True to his name, there is a lot of bass, but it is also mixed in with cool samples (the nectar of the sweet goddess of melody, that’s cheesy I know). Not bad. Enjoy!

NB: also at the show is DJ Vadim of ninja tune records fame.

I’ve enjoyed these two mashups recently:

JJ – Things Will Never Be the Same Again

Thanks to Filippa for introducing me to this band.

Noah & The Whale – I Have Nothing

Pure beauty.

Telepopmusik is a great French eletronic music group. Their music is relatively laid back, but some of it is really entrancing and beautiful. They make me think of Zero 7, or Portishead. It’s got a slow pace, with lots unintrusive beats and sounds happening around it. There’s enough so that it’s not boring, but still relaxing. The following three songs are my favorites.

Also, if anyone you’d like to download the audio, you can try It’s a website that quickly rips the audio from youtube videos and converts it to mp3 for download.

Enjoy. I may build the rest of my evening around some Telepopmusik.

Justice – Stress

I was reading a lot about French Electronic Music yesterday. I’ll probably have some other stuff to post about later, but for now, this song and video has occupied my mind. The song is so crazy intense. And the video matches it. I can’t tell if I would like the song without the video. It’s kind of a difficult video. I can’t exactly say “enjoy”, more like “experience”.
