THE NEW DANCE SOUND OF DETROIT

23 06 2010

I have been reading this book [Techno Rebels by Dan Sicko] on techno and the Detroit culture and subculture scene. There were a number of seminal techno tracks by some of the greatest minds pushing an otherworldy sound that they were completely convinced would change music history. Well, I hope they were right. Wait, I know they were.

Recently, Joseph and I were very privileged to attend the 10th year of the music festival in the big D, known as D.E.M.F. to some, MOVEMENT to others. As he posted earlier, this was a milestone in both of our lives, musically and culturally. I could post a track by each person, group or DJ that blew us both away but I wanted to show how far we’ve come since this definitive compilation that ‘started it all’ came out by a group of souls from Detroit.

Oh and by the way, the folks that made us dance our asses off were

IDA ENGBERG DJ KOZE

ITALOBOYZ DERRICK MAY

MICHEAL MAYER MODEL 500

A-TRAK PRETTY LIGHTS

There were many many more, but I wanted to link you all to these folks.
