Justin K. Broadrick/Pale Sketcher/Jesu/Godflesh

Just finished listening to this mix and wanted to share it with you all. A blend of electronic ambient sounds and sculptures from the past mixed with a few rare treats for the archive-type folks like myself, I think there’s something for everyone here.

PULSECODEMODULATION @ ORCHARD RADIO

5 10 2010

I decided that my music knowledge needed a refresher and enrolled in a few audio/music applications courses. For one of the classes, I get a radio spot on an internet radio station. I have had radio shows in the past but this time I want to focus on modern electronic sound and the various subgenres within the spectrum of this thing we call dance music or techno.  I recorded my first show and posted it on the WCC’s Orchard Radio Facebook.

Here’s the first show sans the announcements.

SPAREPARTS – LIVE @ LAND OF NOD EXPERIMENT 07.25.2010

3 08 2010

I had the pleasure of playing at this festival combining art and music together

and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever played… so far. It

also was a 10am set, so very chill with some low bass hits, hearbeat thumps, samples

galore and of course various ambient soundscapes. I was so excited to bring the ole’

reel to reel out for this as it was an introduction of the digital technologies (I mostly

use a DJ Controller)

with old-school analog. I was fortunate enough to record my set  and wanted to

share it with everyone here.

LUSINE – TWILIGHT EP

11 07 2010

Jeff McIlwain from Seattle has been in the electronic scene for some time now having recorded output on multiple labels such as Hymen, U-Cover, Mute, !K7, Kompakt, Asthmatic Kitty, and Shitkatapult. He has been recording under the guise Lusine for Ghostly International since his 2004 release Serial Hodgepodge. Recently he released a phenomenal album titled A CERTAIN DISTANCE with the first single, TWO DOTS that Joseph posted earlier on in the year. I also was him lucky to hear him drop it @ the BEATPORT Stage last year at the MOVEMENT festival in Detroit after Kate Simko‘s un believable set of minimal/click techno.

Well, it’s time for more from this producer and this one is as diverse as ever!
You can be sure that many other producers will want their paws on his output
in the years to come. I would watch this guy for more great material if I were you.

ambient in june

3 07 2010

Just finished a new mix before the big event LandofNodExperiment at the end of the month. if you still need tickets, Underground Sounds in Ann Arbor, CK Barrymores in Jackson, Record Time in Roseville, and Detroit Threads in Hamtramck all have them for a cheaper price until the even t when they go up at the gate.

Feel free to download the mix below. I really worked hard on this one. I’ve been compiling these ambient mixes together for folks who want to get ‘lost in the wires’ or need something to disappear into a book with their headphones on. Personally I recommend the latter.

meditate & enjoy!

SVIIB

30 06 2010

School of Seven Bells are three musicians that found each other while on tour in their own respective bands. Benjamin Curtis first connected with the two Deheza sisters while he was on tour with then musical outfit, The Secret Machines. On-Air Library! was Alejandra and Claudia Deheza’s current band and around 2006, they formed School of Seven Bells or SVIIB and joined the Ghostly International roster, then it came to me.

Their Debut in 2008, ALPINISMS is full of various electronic elements, meshing very well with the sisters voices and bringing together a meld of indie-poptronics, shoegaze, noise and more or less, a dreamy soundtrack to your summer. I’m a big fan already and they just released a three-song EP (with Ghostly as well) with their sophomore album due next month.

Heres a taste of the Bells efforts from their 2008 debut.

Daft Punk – Remix After All

28 06 2010

Daft Punk’s phenomenal album, Homework was one of the seminal techno albums that really pushed me into all things electronic back in the day. Every single track is a burner. I have so many memories when we used to rock out to these jams

They since have slowly developed their sound and morphed into a live force to be reckoned with whether DJing or putting together a full Live PA show for big festivals. I have a few remixes for all you mixheads out there to check out.
