Dance to the jams, from yours truly

5 09 2010

I’ve been getting really into mixing my own tracks, and decided to try to make something in the vein of Duck Sauce’s Barbara Streisand. This is the result. It’s heavy on synths, quirky percussive sounds, has a classic sample from MC5 and a clip from Orbital. It hope it gets your blood flowing. Made on Reaper.

Movements of Happiness

1 08 2010

Jon has posted a few of his sets from percussionlab on the blog earlier (https://muzikigan.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/mixes-mixes-whos-got-the-button/). I thought I’d try my hand at playing and recording a dj set. It comes in at just under an hour, with a mix of dancy stuff, electro-indie and other related joyous musical nuggets.

DEMF (aka Movement 2010): Detroit Electronic Music Festival

7 06 2010

Last weekend (Memorial Day Weekend), two of us bloggers here went to all three days of DEMF, and had a blast. It was crazy sweet, seeing some sick acts from classic techno to dubstep and downtempo. A couple highlights:

First and foremost, Pretty Lights brought down the house. Monday evening in general was just out of control amazing on the Red Bull stage, but my favorite by far was Pretty Lights. They did a live set with a guy mixing and a live drummer. They put together music at a little slower of bpm, but with huge downbeats, sweet samples, and great rises and falls. Within seconds of arriving on stage, the place was packed to the gills, superhot, and heaving. Arms went in the air, rocking the beat. This group does a sensational live show. Do not miss. One song they played was:

Pretty Lights – Total Fascination

Another favorite was A-trak, who played a dj set on Saturday. He’s got a real hip-hop vibe, and actually toured with Kanye West as his dj. The whole show had some sweet energy, and he was clearly having a blast doing it. The best piece of the show was a remix of Daft Punk’s Robot Rock, with an inserted sample saying “Barbra Streisand”. I wish I could that recording. And my favorite track by him (and how I heard of him in the first place) was his remix of Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It is awesome. Unfortunately I only heard from over by the porta-potties.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-trak remix)

Great shows!!!

Synthpop paradise: NightWaves- She’s Electric (Short Circuit Remix)

27 05 2010

I came across this synthpop group Nightwaves and listened to some of their music. My favorite song is the Short Circuit Remix of She’s Electric, see the link below:

http://hypem.com/#/track/906893/?rec_ref=920634

And for download: http://www.mediafire.com/?ztmjgmdizzd

It has a pleasant but energetic low synth keeping the music moving. The clipping is really smooth. I think the best evidence it’s good is that I just keep listening to it again and again. Hope you like it!

Lusine – Two Dots

8 04 2010

Here’s another tune I’m digging. It’s from the Ann Arbor label Ghostly. Pay attention to the “ts” of the words “Two Dots.” I enjoy how it shows up after the fact. This feels like it’s hitting that niche of non-dancy electronic music. It’s really pleasant and soothing.
