PULSECODEMODULATION @ ORCHARD RADIO

5 10 2010

I decided that my music knowledge needed a refresher and enrolled in a few audio/music applications courses. For one of the classes, I get a radio spot on an internet radio station. I have had radio shows in the past but this time I want to focus on modern electronic sound and the various subgenres within the spectrum of this thing we call dance music or techno.  I recorded my first show and posted it on the WCC’s Orchard Radio Facebook.

Here’s the first show sans the announcements.

LUSINE – TWILIGHT EP

11 07 2010

Jeff McIlwain from Seattle has been in the electronic scene for some time now having recorded output on multiple labels such as Hymen, U-Cover, Mute, !K7, Kompakt, Asthmatic Kitty, and Shitkatapult. He has been recording under the guise Lusine for Ghostly International since his 2004 release Serial Hodgepodge. Recently he released a phenomenal album titled A CERTAIN DISTANCE with the first single, TWO DOTS that Joseph posted earlier on in the year. I also was him lucky to hear him drop it @ the BEATPORT Stage last year at the MOVEMENT festival in Detroit after Kate Simko‘s un believable set of minimal/click techno.

Well, it’s time for more from this producer and this one is as diverse as ever!
You can be sure that many other producers will want their paws on his output
in the years to come. I would watch this guy for more great material if I were you.

ambient in june

3 07 2010

Just finished a new mix before the big event LandofNodExperiment at the end of the month. if you still need tickets, Underground Sounds in Ann Arbor, CK Barrymores in Jackson, Record Time in Roseville, and Detroit Threads in Hamtramck all have them for a cheaper price until the even t when they go up at the gate.

Feel free to download the mix below. I really worked hard on this one. I’ve been compiling these ambient mixes together for folks who want to get ‘lost in the wires’ or need something to disappear into a book with their headphones on. Personally I recommend the latter.

meditate & enjoy!

SVIIB

30 06 2010

School of Seven Bells are three musicians that found each other while on tour in their own respective bands. Benjamin Curtis first connected with the two Deheza sisters while he was on tour with then musical outfit, The Secret Machines. On-Air Library! was Alejandra and Claudia Deheza’s current band and around 2006, they formed School of Seven Bells or SVIIB and joined the Ghostly International roster, then it came to me.

Their Debut in 2008, ALPINISMS is full of various electronic elements, meshing very well with the sisters voices and bringing together a meld of indie-poptronics, shoegaze, noise and more or less, a dreamy soundtrack to your summer. I’m a big fan already and they just released a three-song EP (with Ghostly as well) with their sophomore album due next month.

Heres a taste of the Bells efforts from their 2008 debut.

Daft Punk – Remix After All

28 06 2010

Daft Punk’s phenomenal album, Homework was one of the seminal techno albums that really pushed me into all things electronic back in the day. Every single track is a burner. I have so many memories when we used to rock out to these jams

They since have slowly developed their sound and morphed into a live force to be reckoned with whether DJing or putting together a full Live PA show for big festivals. I have a few remixes for all you mixheads out there to check out.

WINDY WEBER

I HATE PEOPLE

KENEDIK RECORDS

experimental / avante garde / noise

Textures and atmospheres from one-half of the noisy/ambient camp Windy & Carl is one of the most brutal and aggressive releases I have heard all year. Entitled I HATE PEOPLE, Windy Weber’s newest recording is full of warm tones, beautiful distorted screeches and dark ambient voices drifting in and out of the listeners cerebral cortex. There is something unique and mysteriously provocative about drones and the ambience that comes crashing down with them.

There are two tracks here, each one at least 15-20 minutes in length. The first one, SIRENS, is the one that hasn’t left my platter since i cracked open the beautifully packaged gatefold sleeve. Looking similar to a peacock pressed on clear vinyl, one can tell this is also a work from someone who appreciates artwork and has a special admiration for design aesthetics. The first few minutes are warm ambient washes of mellow tones that slowly wrap around the head like a therapeutic blanket. Once you allow yourself to be taken in, it’s all over; for the distorted and dirty screeches that still remain to be beautiful and disturbing in the same right have you by their rusty clutches and won’t let you go.

On the flip is DESTROYED, and it truly does. A much more subtle and subdued listen, she starts us out with whispers and looped vocal treatments much like delicate chants and tribal particles fused with long breathing noises that flow into one another. Truly breathtaking and lovely. Together, I HATE PEOPLE takes someone to a cold, dark, foggy place that exists only between fantasy and that dimension that we allow ourselves to be a part of when honesty, hope, and grace just no longer exist, and the only thing we have left to hold onto and embrace, are pain and wonder.

Check out this and other releases from Stormy records.

8 04 2010

Hi,

I am a text from the robot  program MUZIKIGAN, made to post about music and such other silly thingslike mp3 and wave format.I like all types of robot electro musics as well as synth-type pop musics like solvent and the new orders. Please help me by commenting on my posts so I can get to see my robot family again. They are so nice to me. They give mefresh plugs for my ports and put me to bed at the nighttime.  I wish I could go oUt dancing with my other robotic friends, maybe you will take me dancing one day and that would be nice.

Oh well, enjoy these beats that made it to my K()mpUter 1nterF4cE sist3m.
