FAST FORWARD to TWENTY-TEN: dancefloor of the future

22 03 2010

The gig for this years New Years  Eve was hands down, one of the best times I have played music for people…  period. There was so much energy and all of my favorite folks were on the floor making magic like they do in the Michigan.

I could post some of the music from that night like other blogs do, but I think it would be easier to calculate the vibe if I left a mix up for download that has the same spirit, the same energy, the same rhythm and flow that so easily captivated the mess of bodies on the floor at the Heidelberg some nights ago.

So there are  few spots that I missed but overall it’s a quality taste of what we have been shaking our bootys to lately.

So here is that thing and I hope you all enjoy what I played.

Thanx to Joseph, Alex, Brendan, Robin, Amanda and anyone else that moved to those beats on that night.

italo-smut, freshwave, and disco neuveau mixed with a little indie-funk danse macabre.

get some.

Take On Me (The Twelves Remix)

23 02 2010

This song has supplied a great way to start my writing. It’s so energetic and positive. And it is alphabetically first. Jon had this track in his set on New Year’s Eve at the Heidelberg (before they converted to full-time poker palace) and the whole place erupted, with every single person jumping up and dancing. It was amazing.

The original was good too, but I think this remix is awesome.

Karin Dreijer Andersson

2 02 2010

Karin Dreijer Andersson is the Swedish singer from The Knife, who not too long ago came out with a solo project album under the name Fever Ray. It’s spectacular. Jon is enamored. She actually shows up on some songs by Royksopp (albums: Junior, The Understanding).

She’s also a character, as visible in the clip below of her accepting a music award for best dance act in Sweden. She and her brother of The Knife have a habit of not showing their faces in public, in response to the media hyperfocus on fashion and looks over musical content. They believe the appearance of an artist can change a consumer’s relationship with the music; they’re seeking a connection based on music and art, unmediated by appearance.

By the way, she’s hot.

Also, if you want mp3s of just about anything, e.g. Fever Ray remixes, Jon beseeches thee to undertake an exploration of the technological amenities available via the site of web at

It’s a website that automatically converts youtube videos’ audio to mp3 for download.

And lastly, before posting the links, it’s worth noting there are 8,183,100,231,102 remixes of Fever Ray out there. These are three we like. But there’s plenty more to explore.
